God & The Universe... it sounds a bit like the name of a garage band, doesn't it?
Imagine that in the beginning there was nothing. REALLY nothing. No energy, no masses, no things lying around, no rules. Absolute nothing (more or less like "Absolutely Fabulous..." :P )
Just imagine, that from nothing appeared something. A particle. Since there is no rules yet, no time, no space no nothing, then the particle would create itself the rules needed for it, namely: space (probably 3D coordinates in Cartesian coordinates, since it's the simple thing that Nature can use)... since there is no time, the particle can disappear and appear somewhere else, thus creating a relation between two particles, that are in fact just one. Time is still a no-no, remember.
If that is the case, in a infinitude of time that does not exist (I know, this seems contradictory, but think it through...), the particle can iteratively appear in several places, that way creating some sort of mass.
Think on that mass like like marbles in a glass bowl, or even a bowl of spaghetti.
Now my idea is this: if you look outside the bowl, and take a picture of what you see in the glass bowl, you'll get a photo of some wavy lines, with some lines looking that are going away, others approaching and the like (since you're representing in a 2D representation something that really exists in 3D "behind the camera"!)
So, what would you "see" in your photo? If what is "real" exists in 3D, then we have something like 6 different kind of particles (-x,-y,-z,+x,+y,+z), BUT since we're "taking a photo", the coordinate that is perpendicular to our photo should not appear in our universe, i.e., the most common sub-atomic particles in our Universe should be exactly 5!
Now, go to Wikipedia and see how many quarks there are... :-P
It shows that I'm a true nerd, doesn't it show? :-P
That's what happens when I don't anything to read in the W.C. ... :-D
